Stunning is an operation whose purpose is to induce unconsciousness in cattle, while at the same time preserving the basic life functions - the work of the heart and respiratory organs. This makes the act of slaughter more humane, and enables smooth and safe hoisting onto the upper rail and bleeding. The stunning procedure is purely mechanical and is carried out by mechanical force (captive bolt stunner) which makes the animal lose consciousness. In order to limit the movement of the animals during stunning, and thereby increase the precision of the operation itself, as well as to protect the worker in case of a failed attempt, cattle are stunned in a restricted space – in a stun box. Stunned beef falls onto a reception table which places it in a position suitable to fasten it with a hook with a chain and hoist onto upper rail.
Manipulation of the moving elements of the box is by means of pneumatic cylinders. The box with the reception table is made entirely of stainless material AISI 304.
